Background

Healthcare Assistance Kenya (HAK) is a humanitarian Non-Governmental Organization that operates the only and the first ever Gender Based Violence Rapid Response Call Centre and National Gender Based Violence (GBV) Toll Free Helpline 1195. The sole purpose of the project is to support survivors of Gender Based Violence (GBV) across the country. HAKs Gender Based Violence (GBV) initiative helps vulnerable communities to break the silence on Gender Based Violence (GBV) matters and begin to quickly access Gender Based Violence (GBV) services through the Toll Free helpline 1195 after violation. The Gender Based Violence (GBV) Rapid Response Call Centre is operational 24/7. HAK works in partnership with the Government of Kenya through the State Department for Gender and Affirmative Action. HAK operates the Gender Based Violence (GBV) helpline 1195 on behalf to the Government of Kenya. The uniqueness of the virtual Gender Based Violence (GBV) Rapid Response System has attracted many other like-minded stakeholders including private sector who have willingly joined HAK in the prevention of Domestic Violence and crises related violence. The main aim of the project is to assist survivors access quick Gender Based Violence (GBV) services on referral basis and to provide virtual guidance and counseling by HAK team of Tele-Counselors while providing Gender Based Violence (GBV) education, sensitization and Gender Based Violence (GBV) awareness creation. HAK utilizes the latest technology thus; confidential SMS to enhance survivors’ timely access to prevention of infections such HIV and or Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) after violation.

Aim of the Programme:

The Gender Based Violence (GBV) programme is aimed at addressing Gender Based Violence (GBV) and the impact of violence on men, boys, women and girls across the country. It is for this reason that HAK has stood by its mission, vision and values over the years

Purpose

To operate a 24/7 survivor centered Gender Based Violence (GBV) Rapid Response system that enhances reporting of Gender Based Violence (GBV) cases through helpline 1195 for survivors’ access to timely yet, appropriate services on referral basis. Such services include Guidance and counseling, legal aid, shelter, medical support and significantly contribute to preventing and responding to Gender Based Violence (GBV).
