BACKGROUND

Healthcare Assistance Kenya is a Human Rights - national NGO based in Kenya. HAK is committed to addressing GBV in Kenya while utilizing the latest technology. It is a virtual initiative that comes with confidentiality for vulnerable groups thus; men, women, boys, girls and little children, Persons with Disabilities and the elderly. HAK has engaged a dedicated team of volunteer Tele- counsellors responsible for responding to distress calls from survivors that come through the Toll Free Helpline 1195. GBV data is also captured and stored on HAKs robust data base to inform programming and policies. HAK leads in supporting survivors of through its Rapid Response System that improves survivors’ access to GBV services after experiencing Gender Based Violence. The No. 1195 brings communities together to prevent GBV and protect vulnerable groups. It also enhances access to GBV information among communities.
HAK established a 24/7 National GBV Rapid Response Call Centre and a Toll Free Helpline 1195 so as to enhance reporting of GBV cases confidentially. It is through this means that survivors are able to access Tele-counselling services which is provided HAKs team of dedicated counsellors. HAKs aim is to save lives of women, girls, men, boys, persons with disability and the elderly by ensuring that they access quick GBV services after experiencing any form of violence. Such GBV cases include; physical assault, rape, sodomy, defilement, psychological abuse, denial of property, denial of opportunities, human trafficking, Femicide, etc.
HAK also coordinates and facilitates survivors' quick access to other GBV services on referral basis. Such services include Ambulance for rescue missions, Healthcare, safe spaces/shelters, Legal aid, Economic Empowerment and skilling.
Advocacy:
HAK also creates GBV awareness through its advocacy programmes.Aim of the Programme:
The Gender Based Violence (GBV) programme is aimed at addressing Gender Based Violence (GBV) and the impact of violence on men, boys, women and girls across the country. It is for this reason that HAK has stood by its mission, vision and values over the years
Purpose
To operate a 24/7 survivor centered Gender Based Violence (GBV) Rapid Response system that enhances reporting of Gender Based Violence (GBV) cases through helpline 1195 for survivors’ access to timely yet, appropriate services on referral basis. Such services include Guidance and counseling, legal aid, shelter, medical support and significantly contribute to preventing and responding to Gender Based Violence (GBV).
